A new Angry Birds-themed area will open at Surrey’s Thorpe Park this spring, its owner Merlin Entertainments has announced. A 4,000 square metre land centred on a reworked version of the park’s Detonator drop tower ride is set to open in May.
The land will also include a new dodgems attraction themed on Red Bird and Bad Piggies while there will also be a new 10-minute 4D animated Angry Birds film for visitors to enjoy.
Director of location based entertainment at Angry Birds creator Rovio, Dan Mitchell, said, “It’s great to be teaming up with Merlin Entertainments and Thorpe Park Resort, and we hope this will be just the first of many projects together. We are continuously looking to create amazing experiences for our fans by finding new ways to bring our characters from the digital world to the physical world. Having the game jump out of the screen and come alive around you is going to be incredible!”
The original Angry Birds app has been downloaded 2 billion times and an animated feature film starring the characters is due for release in summer 2016.
